Chapter Introduction

Matthew 12:36–37; Revelation 12:11 (AMPC) , Your Words Testify in the Courts of Heaven The tongue is not only expressive, but it is also judicial.

Your words do not simply communicate; they testify.

Your speech is not merely sound; it is evidence.

Your mouth is not just a tool; it is a witness stand.

Matthew 12:36–37 (AMPC) declares:

“On the day of judgment, men will have to give account for every idle word they speak.

For by your words you will be justified and acquitted, and by your words you will be condemned and sentenced.”

The Greek phrase apodōsousin logon (“give account”) means to render a report, give verbal evidence, testify.

Your words become your testimony.

Revelation 12:11 (AMPC) reveals:

“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony…” The Greek word martyria (“testimony”) means witness, evidence, legal proof.

Your testimony is a legal weapon.

This chapter explores four dimensions of the tongue as a witness:

  • Your words testify about you
  • Your words testify about others
  • Your words testify against the enemy
  • Your words testify before heaven

Your Words Testify About You

Proverbs 10:19 (AMPC) “In a multitude of words transgression is not lacking…” The Hebrew word chata (“transgression”) means to miss the mark, fail, or fall short.

The more you speak, the more your witness is exposed.

Your words testify to your:

  • character
  • integrity
  • faith
  • maturity
  • intentions
  • beliefs
  • identity

Your words reveal your true witness.

The tongue as witness confronts us with a question:

What testimony have my words been giving about me?
