Chapter Introduction
Proverbs 15:4; Isaiah 50:4 (AMPC) Words That Restore, Reconcile, and Revive The tongue is not only capable of destruction, but it is also capable of profound healing. Scripture reveals that the mouth can function like medicine, a remedy, a restorative agent in the hands of God.
Proverbs 15:4 (AMPC) declares:
“A gentle tongue… is a tree of life…” The Hebrew phrase marpeh lashon (“wholesome tongue”) means healing, remedy, restoration.
The phrase etz chayim (“tree of life”) symbolizes vitality, renewal, strength, and divine nourishment.
Healing words impart life.
Isaiah 50:4 (AMPC) reveals another dimension:
“The Lord God has given me the tongue of a disciple and of one who is taught…” The Hebrew phrase lashon limmudim means a trained, disciplined, wise tongue.
Healing speech requires spiritual maturity.
This chapter explores four dimensions of the tongue as a healer:
- Healing words restore the soul
- Healing words reconcile relationships
- Healing words revive destiny
- Healing words release deliverance
Healing Words Restore The Soul
Proverbs 12:25 (AMPC) “Anxiety in a man’s heart weighs it down, but a good word makes it glad.”
The Hebrew phrase tov dabar (“good word”) means a timely, fitting, restorative word.
Some people do not need money; they need a word.
Some do not need advice; they need encouragement.
Some do not need correction; they need comfort.
Healing words restore:
- identity
- confidence
- hope
- strength
- courage
- emotional stability
The tongue as healer confronts us with a question:
Who needs restoration from my words?
